Emotional support animals (ESA)

Writer's picture: Lauren HigginsLauren Higgins

I have found out that Maggie is an emotional support animal. She was an elderly woman's ESA for six and a half years.

The elderly woman eventually gave up Maggie because what she really needed was a service animal, and those are different than ESAs.

Maggie was then rehomed to a six-year-old boy with Tourettes. She was his ESA but was eventually rehomed because the family's other dog attacked Maggie.

It is important to know that ESAs are not service animals.
